Areas of Specialization
Ms. Hansen is an attorney with over twenty years’ experience in corporate finance, real estate finance and restructuring. Her current focus is fund development and affordable housing finance. Ms. Hansen represents financial institutions and community loan funds in the development of products to serve non-profit developers in accessing capital to finance affordable and low-income supportive housing. She also represents investors in connection with the acquisition, financing and development of real estate projects utilizing the low-income housing tax credit. Ms. Hansen joined Bocarsly Emden in 2018. Prior to that, Ms. Hansen was General Counsel of MicroVest Capital Management, LLC, a leading asset management firm specializing in microfinance investing, where she was responsible for corporate governance, fund management, strategic partnerships and global investment. Earlier in her career, she was a Senior Counsel at GE Capital, and practiced in the corporate departments at Skadden Arps and Davis Polk. Ms. Hansen began her legal career as a federal law clerk in the Southern District of New York.
Affiliations/Memberships
Ms. Hansen is a member of the District of Columbia and California Bars, and her application to the Maryland Bar is now pending. She serves on the Advisory Board of Women’s Microfinance Initiative and volunteers for HIAS, a nonprofit providing immigration assistance. Ms. Hansen is a member of the ABA Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.

Brenda received her BA and JD degrees from the University of Virginia.
